Emerging Industries and Broader International Cooperations, key to the High-quality Development of PV Industry
01-16 2024

On January 11, in a PV Industry Conference organized by Solarbe Global , Dr. Lu Chuan, as the CEO of CHINT Solar, was invited to a sub forum of the PV Industry Entrepreneurs.

In the forum, Lu shared his opinions about the current situation of the industry.

When asked “what is the High-quality Development of the Photovoltaic Industry, and which is CHINT's answer to this question”, he said:

Right now, we have seen so many solar farms being constructed around the world, but the infrastructures are not ready to convey such a great amount of energy and the consumption of green energy at peak hours is far behind the energy supplied. So, we must find new ways to fill up this gap. We believe that Green Hydrogen and its derivatives, and the expansion of international cooperation are the feasible answers.

First, Green Hydrogen, as an emerging industry, has quite potential in taking over the excessive green energy, and at the same time it is the best energy storage solution. The production of hydrogen serves as a method of peak regulation to the grid load, and the later consumption won't create any additional pollution to the environment, such as fuel cell for example. Moreover, hydrogen is the raw material of the downstream production of Methanol or Ammonia. However, the current business model of green hydrogen is not ready yet and there are still some technical barriers to breakthrough. The realization of the massive utilization of hydrogen requires broader cooperation among the private sector, government, and grid. CHINT is prepared for this new realm, and we believe that High-quality Development is always about finding new business models, new tracks, and the most important is to be the engine pushing forward the comprehensive wellbeing of the society.

Another way is the improvement and expansion of International Cooperation. Currently, the excessive production capacity of PV equipment is something that cannot be denied. The industry will be ruined if we continue with this simple stacking of homogenized solar panels and inverters. In China, we are all struggling for this limited market share and outside China people are seeking for supply. This regional imbalance must be resolved, and one viable way is to deploy new capacity outside China. Productions of polysilicon raw materials, ingot, and wafer are key subjects for the healthy global PV supply chain. CHINT has already started working on this, we hope in the near future we will have a more diversified supply chain to meet the demand from all the countries.
